Olga Chair /// Cruz-Diez
2012
Olga Chair is an exploration on Venezuelan vernacular furniture. In many small towns around the country it is common to find families enjoying conversation on their porches. Although the design is not specific and varies widely, the typical design consists of a simple metal structure with colourful plastic weaving. The design of Olga wanted to keep the usability, comfort and aesthetics of the original, while updating the overall shape and construction. The piece is made out of solid oak wood and PVC yarn weave. Olga uses materials and labour local to Venezuela, with a focus on traditional craftsmanship, ergonomics, economy of materials and sustainability.
This version was inspired by Venezuelan artists Carlos Cruz-Diez’s work.
